Job Description:
A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking a Mid-Level Civil Engineer to join its team in Laurel, Maryland. The firm provides comprehensive in-house services—including civil engineering, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, land surveying, construction materials testing and inspections, drilling and subsurface utility engineering, and fire protection engineering—allowing projects to be supported from initial concept through final closeout. With multiple offices across Maryland and a collaborative team environment, this role offers the opportunity to take on technical leadership responsibilities while contributing to the continued growth of the civil engineering practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a technical lead engineer for site/civil projects, including planning, design, and preparation of construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, cost estimates, calculations, studies, and technical reports
Support senior management in proposal development, including scopes of work and pricing
Mentor and train junior civil engineering staff
Review design documents and engineering reports prepared by others
Perform field investigations and provide site condition assessments
Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and professional association committees
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
5–8 years of progressive design experience on site/civil engineering projects
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure
Experience in the Baltimore–Washington, DC metropolitan area is a plus
Skills & Competencies:
Proven ability to lead planning and design of a wide range of site/civil projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, internal teams, and agency reviewers
Excellent technical writing skills for reports, permit documents, and correspondence
Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and budgets
Interest in helping grow and expand the regional civil engineering practice
Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
Experience with WIN TR-20, WIN TR-55, and HEC-RAS is a plus
